Breccia is rock composed of angular fragments of older rocks melded together, and that's what we have here. The rocks were broken by some natural process, then re-cemented as translucent chalcedony oozed into the interstices. Ron Gibbs has a long section of beautiful photos of Brecciated Jasper though he doesn't include any Nevada material. The patterns in this stone feature bright colors in a complicated landscape.
