I met a stone cutter recently who admired the stones in this necklace and asked if they were a particular type of jasper. No, I said, they are Peruvian pink opal. He looked quite taken aback. "Oh no!" he said, "I've been throwing that grey stuff away." He resolved to look more carefully at his Peruvian pink opal in the future! This is common opal, it does not have the opalescence typical of boulder or other opals. However, it has amazing images of the cosmos in it (see below for other images from Hubble). I was completely taken with the gorgeous images and hope you will enjoy them as much as I do. If you click on the image to enlarge it, you can get a better view of the amazing pictures in the stones. I found one reference which lists Peruvian opal as an antidote to fatique. Another site calls Peruvian pink opal "angel silk" and dubs it an ascension stone. The beads in the choker are set in hand fabricated sterling bezels. The necklace is strung on cable for strength. The central dangly bit hangs down to there, but remember, he is looking at the images in the stones! |
