This chalcedony "concha" is technically a concretion, and it is entirely covered with drusy, tiny crystals which sparkle in the light. The piece is too thick to set in a traditional bezel, so I made a little holder for it of sterling. This presented quite a challenge because, although the piece is very strong, I didn't think the edges would survive the forces needed to crunch the prongs around it. "Where there's a will there's a way" however, and this is the result-- unobtrusive but secure prongs. The simple necklace complements the elegant centerpiece, the entire piece a study in greys and crystal. |
