Kumihimo is a Japanese braiding technique done on a special frame, the marudai. Normally it is done with silk threads, but I thought it would be fun to try it with beads. This is a true lariat: one long strand with the beautiful old Yemen silver dangles at each end. The beadwork is supple, not stiff, and tends to stay put. There are lots of ways to wear it, including lariat style as illustrated here. |
