The large carnelian bead is amazing! Drilling a stone bead of this size is a real feat. The stone is lovely too, a bit translucent. It rests on the side because a long bead like this does not work if placed crosswise at the center of the necklace. I learned to make the silver beads from Lynne Merchant. The bumpy toad is a wonderful fat little guy with biceps. Toads are associated with healing, money and prophecy. (Please don't eat the toads though!) I have a fantastic, intensely chartreuse tee shirt with an Olmec toad on it-- apparently the Olmecs revered it sufficiently to print up tee shirts... no just kidding. They did carve the toad image into stone. Toad tongues are attached to the front of their mouths, isn't that odd? |
