Dramatic yet neutral, Lew's lovely Blue Lace Agate triangles dangle from big luscious flat coin pearls. I decorated the silver Agate tops with some tiny Mother of Pearl cabs. A lovely faceted blue Chalcedony bead sits in the middle.
Wait, what is the difference between bluish Chalcedony and Blue Lace Agate? Chalcedony is Silicon Dioxide, usually semitransparent or translucent as you can see in these earrings. This grayish-blue color is very common, it is the so-called "plain gray Agate" that fills many Agate nodules.
Chalcedony occurs in many individually-named varieties including Agate. I think perhaps Wiki wanders a bit off the rails when it says opaque varieties of Agate are sometimes referred to as Jasper. We should probably step away from this argument about the differences others identify between Agate, JaspAgate and Jasper.
Our African Blue Lace is classic Agate: hard, translucent in some areas, with subtle bands of white. It matches one of the 2016 Pantone colors of the year, "Serenity" so should look nice with your newer fashions. The stones are quite thin, so even though the earrings have a lot of volume, they are not as heavy as one might expect. Please check out the weight of the earrings before you order. The backs are sterling "Komfy Klutches" which have a large cushion of silicone to lend support.
