Perhaps someone will advise me what type of jasper this is. Pending learning its real name, we'll call it "autumn jasper." I hope you will click on the image to see all the beautiful stones. The coppery shibuichi clasp blends perfectly with the stones. Shibuichi is a classical Japanese alloy of silver and copper, prized for the subtle range of colors attained through patination. This example was probably heat patinated.

Dr. Pough's thick book gives only one short four-sentence paragraph to "the chert, flint, and jasper group [of quartz minerals]." He does allow that "Jasper is often colorful, tinted by ocher or hematite." Simmons and Ahsian have essays on six varieties of jasper, none of them like these stones. Cayce, in his description of the stones in the breastplate of Aaron, mentions that jasper was a grounding stone which helped bring depth with the answers divined and aided in comprehending the advice received. In searching Amazon for more references to jasper, I was struck by the preponderance of titles relating to the healing properties of gemstones. However fine those may be, it seems like jasper deserves a big book of color photos like those devoted to agates!

The stones have an almost velvety feel and will complement a fall wardrobe perfectly. If you're a "green" person like myself, or one who wears a lot of rusty or brownish tones you would likely wear it all year 'round. It is made with heavy beading cable and is not stretchy. This is an advantage in that it shouldn't break as the stretchy bracelets often do, but a disadvantage in that it won't stretch to fit a larger wrist. Please contact me if you need a different size.
