Tourmaline and Pearls Necklace and Earrings |
These huge chunks of watermelon blew me away! They definitely sparked the "frequency of joy" Robert Simmons speaks about (below). They appear to have been sawn off rather irreverently, but the beauty of the crystal shines through. The luscious pearls are simply yummy! Today you will often see tourmaline listed as an alternate birth stone for the month of October, and of course pearls are supposed to be the June birthstone. Kunz rails at these attributions saying tourmaline can't possibly be in the list of birthstones (which some trace back to Aaron's breastplate) since it wasn't discovered until the 18th century, and of course pearls aren't stones at all. He devotes a surprising amount of ink to the subject, even presenting his own list of accessory gems found in the United States for those born in the United States. He is at pains to insist that this list cannot replace the birthstone list. He gives Lake Superior green tourmaline as the accessory stone for May. He then proceeds to wax eloquent upon the gems of the four seasons, of the individual months (with little poems), of the days of the week and hours of the day! Whatever month you were born, whatever day of the week it is, whether you are dressed casually or formally, this set would look very beautiful on you. I hope you will order it and enjoy it! |
