The gorgeous borosilicate bead on the right-hand side of this piece defined the color scheme. The vesuvianite cabs picked up the greens in the bead nicely, and the rhodonite matches the pinkish color. I had never seen vesuvianite before, my understanding is that it was first found on Mt. Vesuvius, hence the name. These pieces apparently came from California however. The odd collection of materials in this necklace shows the lengths a designer must go to find things which match hand-made beads. This necklace is featured in Penelope Diamanti's gorgeous book, Beadazzled: Where Beads & Inspiration Meet (link below). LOVE BEADS: This piece includes "love beads," beads given to me after the fire by friends and strangers. The necklace carries the energy of their loving concern. |
