Kumihimo is a Japanese braiding technique. In order to make a piece like this, I string about 4,000 15/0 seed beads on each of eight strands. Not all of these beads wind up in the braid but are needed to make it. The braid is very supple so can be knotted as shown.

A true lariat is a bit of a hassle to put on. For this reason I cut the braid at the back and provided a hook closure so you won't have to knot it each time you put it on and so that the length can be adjusted easily. You can untie the knot and re-tie it in other ways like any lariat.


LOVE BEADS: This piece includes "love beads," beads given to me after the fire by friends and strangers. The necklace carries the energy of their loving concern.
