This is hardly a normal Virgo Moon design! There isn't a single bead in it!! Don't know what got into me. But I like it very much and hope it will appeal to someone who doesn't care for my more elaborately embellished pieces with all the tassels and fru-fru fringe! The name comes from a story in Science News (August 31, 2002) called "Lonely Universe." It discusses the present belief of some scientists that mysterious "dark energy" is stretching space-time and pushing galaxies apart at an ever increasing rate. They think that in 50 billion years or so, the relative speeds between our galaxy and the others will exceed the speed of light. At that point, light emitted by one will never catch up to the other. So we will "see the light from the other gradually grow dimmer like a dying ember" and the galaxies will slowly wink out of our night sky. It was a very poignant little article despite the fact we needn't worry about it for a while! The centerpiece shows a night sky with those glowing embers. |
