This necklace, unlike #118, lies flat around the neck. The soft crocheted silks and cottons feel nice against the skin. The centerpiece is a cabochon of azurite, a conglomerate of lapis and malachite. To my eye, azurite is much prettier than malachite by itself. I never like hard edges, so I sewed malachite and lapis chips around the edge. (Note that all the lapis is highest quality, undyed lapis. Its rich dark blue is natural.)

I put lots of interesting things onto the necklace, mostly old buttons and coins. The closure is a new button, a reproduction of the old iridescent glass ones. (Note the button is sewn on, so the length of the necklace can be adjusted simply by moving it.)

You can see the little bismuth crystal better in the detailed photo. It is slightly above the azurite cab and to the left. This one has been fumed so it reflects gorgeous iridescent blues, pinks and greens. Bismuth forms fascinating stepped crystals but it is hard to use because it is quite heavy and the iridescent coating will wear off if heavily abraded. This is a very good way to use it-- it is well protected and is such a small chunk it does not add excessive weight.
